Historical Insights: The Birth of the N.M.C.I.
The year was 1989. As always practically every night, the "group" would find its way
into Mayo's place in Villamonte. But the gathering that took place in the night of the XXth
of 1989 was yet another turning point in the history of Negrense mountaineering, for the concept of "consolidating" the members
of the (then) existing Bacolod-based climbing clubs into one single organizational entity, was about to be realized.
The climbers from the Philippine Montaineering Society (PMS/ 1977), the school-based groups of the San
Agustin Mountain Club (SAMOC/ 1979), and the Recoletos Association of Mountaineers (RAMs) were about
to be "unified"!
Soon after, a document was prepared and duly signed to officially ratify the establishment
of the new organization which was intended to become the official representative-Club of Negrense members.
After the initial organizational meeting and the drafting of the NMC Constitution
& By-Laws, the following first set of Officers were elected:
Engr. Wilhelm J. Tan, Club President;
Edwin V. Gatia, Club Vice-President;
Evelyn Jamero, Exec. Club Secretary;
Mayo C. Monteza, Club Treasurer; ...
On XXXXXXXXX, XX,
19XX, the Club assumed a legal person-
ality as a recognized non-stock non-profit organization when it was duly registered with
the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC)..
The Club held its first Annual General Assembly on XXXXXXXX,
XX, 1991, at the Kiwanis Garden in Brgy.Taculing, Bacolod City.
The Club hosted the Mid-Year Presidents' Meeting & Climb at Mt. Canlaon as the venue in
October 1989., and again played host to the MFPI's President's Meeting & Climb at Patag, Silay City, in October
of 1992.
Eng. Tan was succeeded by MICHELE "MIKE" YEE as Club President in 199X, then by XXXXXXXXXXXXXX in 199X.
NEIL PEREZ, the youngest to be elected Club President in 199X, tragically died near the summit of Mt. Canlaon
during the eruption of the volcano in August 1996.
